In 1950, before Sputnik, before NASA, and before a single known artificial satellite was orbiting Earth… something appeared in the sky. Astronomer Dr Beatriz Villarroel and her team have been studying mysterious objects known as “transients” — points of light captured on astronomical photographic plates that appear, disappear, and in some cases seem to show patterns that are extremely difficult to explain.
