Let me introduce you to the Founder of Scissors & Cloth, Carlos Morin. He grew up in a town called Round Rock which is near Austin, Texas. He says, "When I was growing up, I found myself more attracted to runway shows on TV rather than pursuing my baseball playing dreams." Being from a little town in Texas where the fashion industry is not necessarily prevalent, he had to stall his fashion career interest. It was not until one Texas afternoon, while he was taking a nap, that an epiphany occurred. While he was sleeping he got a clear message "You need to make clothing for people." From that day on, he became obsessed with pattern making and the entire process of creating his unique clothing pieces. He says, "Fashion was all I was thinking about." While still in Texas and working full-time as an electrician, he studied the fashion industry. It was not until he had a couple of motivating friends that ultimately pushed Carlos to make that final leap to quit his electrician job and to follow his true passion and dream of becoming a fashion designer. In 2004, Carlos moved to San Francisco to pursue his formal fashion education at the Academy of Art Institute. His first gig upon graduation was tailoring the 2008 Olympic Team uniforms. He continued to work other fashion jobs to gain as much experience as possible and in 2009 Scissors & Cloth was born. Scissors & Cloth is a custom clothing shop focused on designing and creating one of a kind menswear pieces. Carlos also provides a variety of swag merchandise for the Restaurant & Bar Industry. One of Carlos’ most celebrated and dope pieces that I came across was his Bartender Aprons. Carlos talks about how he starts from the body shape of who the bartender is and creates an exact pattern of their silhouette to create this unique piece for their own hospitality servicing needs. What ends up at the end is a unique piece of ready to wear bartender fashion art from Scissors & Cloth. In this podcast, you hear Carlos talk about the ups & downs of building his business, how it all started, and how he went from creating custom men's shirts to servicing the bar industry. Carlos is a person who takes on challenges, willing to take risks on designs, self-taught, and never says "no" to a new opportunity. He says, "If I can build a collar men's shirt from scratch, I can build anything." Enjoy the podcast.
