Scott Valentine Has Family Ties

Scott Valentine literally came back from the dead before landing the iconic role of Nick on Family Ties. His story of never giving up will inspire you. Scott Valentine became a sensation as Nick, Mallory's boyfriend, on 4 seasons of Family Ties. Before landing the role of Nick Scott had graduated and was working at The Actor's Studio. On the way to talk to his agent to discuss roles, he landed on a soap opera, and in the movie, Lords of Discipline Scott had an altercation with a driver on the road and that driver ran him over. Scott died at the hospital and was brought back to life. His journey of recovery and subsequently moving to LA led him to the opportunity that would be Nick on Family Ties. Scott was originally meant to only guest star on one episode of Family Ties. Scott shares the story of how that one episode expanded to over 40 episodes. Scott talked about acclimating himself and being welcomed on the set of Family Ties. Scott and the character of Nick became so popular there were 3 attempts to spin off the character into his own sitcom. The third of those attempts featured a pre-Seinfeld Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Each attempt met its own demise and Scott shares some telling behind-the-scenes politics of life in Hollywood and the fight that stopped Scott's spin-off in its tracks.
