Every flicker of movement became a threat, every shadow a potential predator. His dreams morphed into nightmares of a creepy smiling witch and something seriously nasty lurking just out of sight. Even his reflection started doing the funky chicken, showing him some kind of twisted, elongated monster. Talk about a bad mirror day!He tried to hide amongst his usual unsavoury clientele, the cutthroats and thieves of the city's underbelly. But even these hardened criminals gave him the side-eye, whispering about the witch's curse. His fearsome reputation, once his greatest weapon, now made him a pariah, a supernatural terror to even the most depraved. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and our once-confident killer found himself crawling back to the witch's burnt-out shack.And what did the old biddy have to say? Only the most soul-crushing truth imaginable: her curse didn't summon demons; it just revealed the darkness that was already inside him. Turns out, all those souls he'd sent packing were still hanging around, and now, thanks to the witch and his own crumbling sanity, they wanted their pound of flesh... literally! The shadows themselves became inky tendrils of vengeance, and our boy was the main course.In a poetic (and deeply disturbing) twist, the Shadow Dweller's final hunt was himself.
