SDH 041: Feeling Your Way To A Fabulous Career with Sunny Lenarduzzi

from She Did It Her Way · host Amanda Boleyn

Sunny Lenarduzzi dreamt of becoming a news anchor. She went to college to study broadcasting and even made it to what she felt was the pinnacle of her career, as a reporter at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Despite being at what she felt was a high point in her career, something did not feel right. She realized that her creativity did not function between the hours of nine to five and the only person who could be her boss was her. Sunny has combined her hard work and passion for technology to become a consultant for social media, the first social media host of a morning show in Canada and running a Youtube Channel for topics such as social media tips and tricks and technology app reviews. Sunny Topics -How she fell in love with the digital space after starting an online magazine -How becoming a consultant started organically for her -Her teenage acting days and how they helped handle rejection -How she started her youtube channel and reached almost 10,000 subscribers -What she presented to NATO in Brussels -Long term v.s. short term strategies with personal branding -Why you have to be an expert in your field, and not just passionate -Her recommendation to not stick to a strict schedule Sunny’s Feels “I thought that [reporting at the Olympics] was the pinnacle of my career [...] but it still felt kind of empty. It didn’t feel like what I was truly meant to be doing.” “I always have been very fascinated with technology. I do some tech reporting and I have always been one of those girls who is obsessed with gadgets and social media.” “Rejection doesn’t really scare me. It just means I have to choose a different path.” “For me the key to success in any business or brand is figuring out what your  target audience wants to know, and creating your content around that. ” “I have mad respect for people who work in corporate environments. I think you can be entrepreneurial within a company, as well. But for me, it was more of a lifestyle thing than anything else. I truly don’t think that everybody in the world is their most productive between the hours of nine to five.” “I have always been a bit of a hustler, and I have always worked really freakishly hard, to the point where people think I am a little bit crazy, but when it didn’t feel right anymore, and it wasn’t fun anymore for me, I really truly did not see the point in me sticking with it.” “If it feels like you are forcing a situation, whether it is work or personal, it is probably not meant to be. It’s probably not meant for you, and that is a hard lesson to accept sometimes.” “The whole plan of my day revolves around feelings. I get shit done, but I just do it in my own timeline.” “I don't think it’s luck. I think there is a certain level of serendipity that comes into play, but at the end of the day it’s mostly that you work really, really, really hard, and the right opportunities will come your way.” “For me, working in an office environment, and being tied to specific hours and tasks, and being told what to do when to do and how to do it,  just didn’t sit well with me.” [Connect with Sunny  Facebook, Sunnylenarduzzi.com, Instagram, Twitter, (@SunnyLenarduzzi), Youtube] RESOURCES: Gary Vaynerchuk IFTTT Google Drive Canva The Firestarter Sessions by Danielle La Porte The Desire Map by Danielle La Porte Sunny’s Favorite Productivity Tips and Apps
