Sea Point e-scooter rules put the brakes on unsafe riding

The City of Cape Town is introducing new rules for e-scooters, e-bikes and other electric mobility devices on the Sea Point Promenade, following concerns about speeding and conflicts with pedestrians. The new Sea Point Promenade Management Protocol includes an 8km/h speed limit in shared pedestrian areas, gives pedestrians right of way, and introduces restrictions on reckless riding, oversized and high-powered devices and multiple riders. New signage is expected by the end of August, with the new measures due to come into effect in September.
