from AGEIST · host David Stewart

Every 45 seconds someone in America suffers from a stroke. Sean Entin, a stroke survivor and now survivor’s coach, joins the SupeAge podcast this week to discuss how he turned his trauma to triumph. At just 40 years old, Sean suffered a stroke. Before that, he was a successful entrepreneur, husband and father. His live was filled with travel and celebrities. Then, his life changed, and he lost almost everything, except his will to live.In this episode you will learn:The struggles one might experience after a traumatic brain injuryHow to support a loved one who has been through a traumatic brain injury How to find the humor is a difficult situationHow being of service to others can shift your mentality and and give you purposeHow having a community helps build resilience in the most difficult times“My brain at 40 years old, David, was that of a 3 year old kid. I was not able to speak, not able to add, write, nothing. Nothing was coming together. I had to relearn everything all over again.” “I knew inside, David, that I was going to walk. I just believed in my mantra of “I can, I shall, I will.’”“I fought for my daughters. I really, really did. I fight for them everyday. Because I still have effects of the stroke, of course, but every time I got to pull through because I have these two little girls who are counting on me.” “Don’t believe in the impossible. Believe: I am possible.” Sean’s advice for any caregiver of a stroke or brain trauma survivor: “Imagine you’re a rock and a wave’s coming to hit you. Be that rock for the wave to hit you. Don’t move with that wave. Stay stationary on that sand and on that beach. Be the biggest rock that you can and create the space for your loved one to come at you.” Listen to the full SuperAge episode wherever you stream your podcasts.
