In the dead of night as people sleep, that is when the spirits creep. As the bell tolls three dark things take power, we like to call it the supernatural hour. We like to call it the supernatural hour. And now our hosts.
Hey, welcome to the Supernatural Hour. This is your host, Riven. Hi, this is Chad. This is Drake.
Here's Emmett. And I'm Doc. Doc, we've missed you. It's been like forever.
Welcome back, man. It's been a hot minute, but I'm happy to be back and excited for our episode. And it'll be fun. The life of a doctor gets super crazy.
So we're still missing Jess. She is busy, but we will get her back eventually. For the business. We don't have a whole lot of business going on right now, but we did want to talk about it's Christmas time and the Utah Food Bank is a great charity to donate to if we've got some, if you've got some things going to do for the holiday spirit.
So we recommend or, you know, the encourage you to donate there or to any charity of your choice. It'll be a hard time for a lot of people. So, you know, a food bank, a sub-persona, a Christmas tree, you know, I don't know what they call it, the Christmas trees. The angel tree things.
The angel tree is like you see at Walmart or department stores where you buy something for someone that needs something. This is a great time of year to do that. So that's what we encourage for our activity. And until then we will see you in January.
We'll get an investigation of public investigation going in January. And the business has been brought to you by Castle PhotoArt. Residential. So before we talk about the residential that we did, we have kind of a newish segment.
I say newish because I don't know how regular it will be. It depends on team members availability. But we want everyone that listens to us. You hear about the team.
We talk about the team, the team team. And so we're bringing in. If we had everybody in the team on the podcast every week, it would be chaos because there's so many of us and everyone's talking to everyone so great. So we decided just to, when they're available, bring one on, introduce you, get to know exactly who the team is because a lot of our listeners are also, we have a lot of listeners all over the world and we would love for all of you to come to our events.
And I know you can't just know that we love you. A lot of the people that come to our events are also listeners. And so this will kind of help you get to know the people that are on your team. So tonight we have with us Moon.
Hey Moon. So I'm just going to turn the time over to her and we have to, we have to introduce her before we talk about the residential because the residential we did involved her very heavily. So Moon, take it away. Hello, I'm Moon.
I've been on the team for about three years and I am Raven's Neltek of about 13 years. Yay, 13 or 14. It's just been a really long time. But she would tell me all about all these ghosts and I've always just been so intrigued by all the ghost stories.
I just loved it ever since I was a little and so I'm like, tell me more, tell me more. And she, eventually I went on a couple investigations with her and she asked me to be on the team. So I was super honored. I was like, are you sure I'm not worthy?
But yeah, I love being on the team. I love investigating and looking for the spooky things and sometimes finding them. So that's me. Finally, just be on the team so that storytelling is easier.
Right? Yes. So back to the residential. We actually went and investigated her brother's store.
Usually I will kind of talk about the residential but I'll let you talk about the residential. Oh, okay. So we would go into my brother's store and there was some spooky feelings there. We went in and investigated and we found a couple type three's and we also found a type two and we also found quite a bit of EMF coming from the electrical outlets in different areas.
I guess there had been a lot of flooding which can bring about some paranormal activity or amp it up, if you will. And yeah, we got some stuff cleared out for them. The type two turned into like a one and a half. So we ended up letting him stay since he decided to play nice.
And he's kind of, he kind of after talking to him for a while, is kind of acting as a mentor as a, I don't know if that's what I want. The protector. The protector. The type of spirit I would say for my brother.
So yeah. So that was kind of a fun little. Yeah, she just invited a couple of us because it's not a very big store. Right.
So that was pretty fun. We had a lot of activity. I didn't get any activity on my flashlights but we did get some on the ghost box, the spirit box. Yes, my little brother is actually on the team as well and he got some really good spirit box words, even including my older brother's name and why he was there.
He wanted to keep, it kept saying keep, which means he just wanted to be around Brian. So pretty interesting. That's what was up on one. And then later on into the investigation, we determined that there was a water elemental there, which kind of explained all the flooding.
Yes. There's been a lot of floods in his store from a store next door. Yes. So that was a fun investigation.
And I'm just going to do a little business plug that's, we probably should have done a business segment, but you know, it's that kind of a night. We are wearing, not on purpose, matching hats. Moon's has been mixed, beanies, little pom poms, and leather patches on the front are says, you know, APS for that's paranormal services and has their logo. We will have this for sale that anybody for anybody that wants a really cool logo hat.
Yes. Customy. Yes. So for you guys that are zooming in, let me stick my cold face up to the computer so you can see here we go.
Pretty neat. That's awesome. And we can get some pictures of these up on the advanced paranormal website and prices. And when you come to our events in January and February and March, when it will still be cold and you'll want one, we'll have some order forms there for.
We'll also have regular hats, like regular baseball curve cats, flat bill hats. I mean, he can do anything. He's just really super talented and artistic. All right.
Our main topic today is on seances. What did you guys find out about seances? It's a lot broader topic than I originally thought. There are many different types.
I thought a seance, you know, it wasn't as formal a deal as I found out that it can be. And there's a lot of really institutionalized seances too in various religions. Right. I think there are so many topics that we do that you could probably do an entire podcast on.
We can have like the seance, natural hour. That's a really dumb name. We'll not name it that. I mean, it's hard to discuss seances in our 15 minutes that we try to keep it to.
When you say seances, I always envision the Victorian times because that's when it got wild and crazy and super popular. Yeah, the spiritualism thing craze. Yeah. And I know with seances, you know, thinking of the Victorian times and we've mentioned this a couple times when we've had, you know, Victorians in our topic, they were just crazy.
They were, they were a creepy, strange era. And so seances just fits right in. You know, I've always known seances were kind of a thing that's like, yeah, doesn't surprise me because Victorians. The whole architecture was designed to be creepy.
Yeah, it's like, you all were creepy, Victorians. So true. Anyway, so basically what a seance is it comes from the French word for session or an old French word. And I don't know how to say it as seoir, which means to sit.
And usually when you see seances, everyone's sitting, but as you kind of got reading into them, you don't have to be seated necessarily to have a seance. But I think just the stereotypical seance, everyone is seated. So it was kind of interesting. The word was used generally in French, you know, to be seated or to sit or you know, I'm going to have a session at the computer, which in English would be kind of a formal dorky way of saying I'm going to sit at the computer for a while.
And English seance specifically means the paranormal thing. The English always have done weird things to French words. There's a street in London called Marley bones. It's just right.
If you're listening, you know, you're going to say, oh my gosh, I'm in your sodium, but it's just in downtown London kind of in a fancier part of town. And I think it's near Kensington, if I'm remembering this correctly, if I'm not, you can email castle at wisp.org. Just kidding. If I got it wrong, I do apologize.
But the street is called Marley bones. And what we were told by a tour director when I was there was the street was actually called Merle bon. But the English and the French, as we all know, did not always get long, so nearly. And so the English is called it Marley bones.
Here we go again. We've got the English, you know, taking something French and doing weird things to it. But English, it means specifically speaking to spirits. So like we said, very, very popular in the mid 19th century, and that's when spiritualism got really popular.
And if you think about it, in the United States back about time, just that whole spiritual revival was just crazy. And it went up, not just from, you know, form hands and just normal people, but in the United States anyway, it went as high up as the White House. Mary Todd Lincoln was very into seances. And the idea about seances is it specifically intended to speak with someone specific.
And as you know, Mary Todd Lincoln had children that passed. And so she was so distraught. She wanted to be able to speak with her children and find out how they were doing and to communicate with him. And so of course Abraham Lincoln would come in with his wife because they're his children as well.
And he wants to get in on this, right? It was very popular with Houdini. It was very popular with Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes. And there was just a ton of other very, very prominent people that were heavily involved in seances at the time.
Some of the research I did, the leader is usually a medium when someone's doing a seance, there's a leader and it's usually a medium and we'll go into a trance that theoretically allows the spirits through their body, conveying messages to others participating. So that's my tidbit. Seances were so popular. And what they would do is they would go sit around the table, they turn the lights off, and the medium would be trying to contact or was it they were trying to contact.
And they would ask for the spirit to let them know they were there. And sometimes the table would raise or sometimes they would hear of a ways. The problem though is these Victorians were just profiting off of these people. And almost all of it was faked.
And it was faked to the point where there was a kind of a study. In 1887 it was called the Sebert Commission. They made a report that outed the credibility of spiritualism. And they said that they just in this report they published that there was exposures of fraud and showmanship and just exploiting people because they were, the Victorians were very much into death.
It was their thing. It was kind of a death culture. Is that where they did the creepy pictures of dead people and things like that? Yeah, they take pictures of their loved ones.
Yes. They have them sitting in their living rooms and look at a live with their family around them. Yes, they were creepy. Yes.
Victorians had a lot of creepy shiz. Let's talk about that. Okay, let's cut them a little slack though because photography was a new thing. And they may have had no pictures of their loved ones.
True. Hey, at least they're not linking, you know. Yeah. Remember they were having funerals in their own living rooms.
Yes. And the dead were laying around for quite, you know, so it was just a more common thing to I guess the dead laying around a lot more often. Still creepy. Right.
They don't have anything to do. My first movie where I really remember the seance was the other. Do you guys remember that show? I love that show.
Yeah. And it's one of my favorites. The twist ending but that old lady with the veil and the blind eyes. I don't know how to explain them.
Yeah. She was the seance medium lady. So you can get spoilers on the others because if you haven't seen it by now, show and fall, it's really old. You're several decades late.
They're black and white. It's old. Right. It is a good one though.
Very good. If you haven't seen it in Nicole Kidman, it's very good. And it's one that has one of those. The twist ending.
It's a very unexpected. A lot twist. I'm trying to keep it from you. Just go watch it.
It's cool. Anyway, seances are still a thing today. I mean, people still hold them. But they really focus on the spiritual aspect and the spiritual values and actually trying to make contact with someone rather than the showmanship.
And that can become hard in any sort of ghost investigating. When we have the public investigations, our goal is to teach people how to go somewhere properly or show them how to ghost hunt if they've never done it before, to show them what it's really all about because there's a lot of misconceptions. And we've got people that have paid a ticket to be there. We tell them ghost hunting is like fishing.
We've got stuff going on all over the place. And other times you're sitting there going, well, this is no fun. It's like fishing. Sometimes you pull and fish out of the water.
Sometimes you're drowning worms. So there's always that pressure. If I hope something, please have a light. Come on, please.
Some spirit come talk to us. So I get the mediums wanting to have something happen, but you just can't fake it. And that's something that we as Wisps and Advanced Paranormal really highly, highly push is don't fake it. There's nothing.
There's nothing. But don't fake it. So some people do ask, what is the difference between a seance? Because as some as I said, should I have a seance?
I would say no. So the research I did, it likened seances to Ouija boards. I even say that Ouija boards came because of seances. And my answer to that would be when you're having a seance, you are trying to make contact with a specific thing.
A lot of people have actually asked me, what is the difference between what you do and what a seance is? You know, because I will tell people don't have a seance. And so, you know, people say, well, don't have a seance, but you're out here ghost hunting. What's the difference?
To me, the difference is when we're ghost hunting, we want to get evidence of things that are already there. We go into a building and we say, we want to see if this building is haunted. And we want to see if there are spirits here and if the spirits that are already here will manifest themselves to us somehow or communicate with us through our devices. We want to get scientific evidence.
Well, exactly. Half of us walk into a place and we can feel it. We know it. But we can't convince other people of just, you know, based on our experience.
It's nice to get that evidence. Yes, so true. Exactly. And that's one of the things when we do a public, like our library presentations is I always say one piece of evidence is personal experience, but it's really only evidence to you or people that really, really trust you.
You know, if a stranger walked up to me and said, hey, I had a personal experience of this. I'll probably give them the benefit of the doubt because I'm that kind of a person. But ultimately it's like, I don't know you. I don't know if you're lying.
I don't know if you're, you know, just trying to look cool. I don't know if you're for real. You know, so we go in from a scientific if we want to see if we can find something that's already here, whereas a seance, just the way a seance is set up, you're looking for a specific person. You're looking for things to contact you.
You're opening up invitations for anything to come through. And this can go a little bit into some religious doctrine. I believe that most spirits crossover and for one reason or another are just too busy to come and talk to you and your friends around the kitchen table, sit in the dark. To me, if they want to contact you, they will on their own accord.
But they're just not going to be summoned. And I think that when if you're going to a seance, it just opens up an invitation for anything to come in and pretend to be grandma or pretend to be your daughter that's passed away. And there's just too many, too many holes, too many unknowns, too much. It's like a Ouija board.
Exactly. Could be dangerous. And I don't like it. So and some people could say, that's a really fine line Raven.
Yeah, well, fine. But I like my side of my fine line and I keep sayances on the other side of that fine line. And I like gear. So I'm not going to go studying if I can't have my gear.
Right. I feel emotions of the spirits and I've told people this before. I can feel those emotions so deeply that it's almost like hearing them talk. So I'm a nice, a clear sentient when you feel.
I think it's clear sentient when you feel. But I like having my little gizmos and gadgets to back up what I feel. It's really nice to say, you know, the spirit feels like you're really angry or the spirit feels like she's upset because of this. And then have my green flashlight that we've already determined is a yes.
Come on. You know, I love having that scientific backup. Yeah, there's a there's a big difference between what would be empiric evidence or act of deodorant evidence and even in the field of medicine, I mean, I do things based on anecdotal evidence evidence often if I don't have a good solution to something and somebody says, Hey, somebody tried this or I tried this one time and it worked well. There's no real data to back up the decision.
It was just somebody's experience, right? And I think seances are kind of that way. It's more experiential. And you say, Yeah, I experienced it myself.
I felt it myself. And so I know that this is this works or that was a confirmation where the gadgets and gizmos at least give you some degree of quantifiable data. And I think that is much more accepted in scientific communities, obviously. But even within, I think paranormal ghost hunting communities having that hard evidence is always going to be more convincing than somebody's experience, right?
Right. When I go into a residential and someone is afraid that there's something in their home, there's really something about them seeing a light light up that we can't explain or to be able to give them an EDP, you know, with a voice on there or a photograph that we can't explain rather than just sitting there. And I'm not trying to put, you know, mediums down, but there is something like Doc said, have that quantifiable evidence to back up everything else. Also, especially when we get two different lines of evidence, like, you know, the time we we had the spirit on the on the SLS and as just as he reaches out to touch the ghost meter pro, it lights up.
Yep. So you got those two lines of evidence directly confirming each other. Yep. Yeah.
And one thing I did say was say, I was saying, you know, back in the Victorian times is a lot of it was power of suggestion. And so you'd have one person that was an actor, you know, unbeknownst to everybody else there, you know, an actor that would say, Oh, I saw that light move. And so, you know, you get peer pressure on that. They saw that move.
Oh, yeah. I saw, you know, so everyone's jumping on the bandwagon. Yeah. So I've got a question.
Was one of the things that the Seabrick commission report actually used as part of the to out them. And interesting note, and I mean, you may have mentioned, someone mentioned this earlier, but Houdini. I mean, Drake, maybe this was you. A house.
Houdini was actually a big player because his, I mean, his whole life work was his was because his mother died and you want to talk to his mother and a lot of these seances and stuff, they would make it to where it wasn't, or he wanted to discredit it because of that. Yeah. And he knew all about magic and sleight of hand and, and I don't know everything about history or trade, but that's what he did for a living. And so, you know, I'm sure- He's still considered the greatest in field.
Oh, absolutely. And so I'm sure that he recognized some of these little bits of trickery on thought. Nope. Yeah, when you see people for a living, it's easy to point out the subject, right?
Exactly. Yeah, he's probably sitting there going, yeah, you guys are such amateurs. He's a great debunker. Absolutely.
So I found it interesting that there were some different types of seances, because I thought there was just one. OK. I just thought a seance was a seance. Yeah, you sit around a table and do your thing, right?
Yes, they're on the table in the dark and ask people to come talk to you. So there's different types. So there's a religious seance. And this is actually held by a spiritualist, so a leader of one of these spiritualist movements.
As opposed to just teenagers hanging out and hanging out in their own. Bob across the street or something. And they actually have- Or how's wives doing it? Like Bill and Ted?
Yeah. And they will actually have it in a church building or outdoors. So it's kind of like a church-based thing. There are stage seances, and these are the mediums, and I'm using air quotes.
And again, I know actual mediums, and I'm not trying to cut them down, but these are done by mediums on a stage with a seated audience. And these are more for show. So there's John Edwards or there's a guy that- Sylvia Brown. Yeah, but there's a John Edwards that was a number of years ago would do those kind of readings with an audience in a TV thing.
It was quite interesting. And a lot of it was power of suggestion and leading questions, things like that. So there's a dividing line between real attempted spiritualism and show business. Yeah.
And so these stage seances would be more for the showmanship and maybe not so much on a personal level, more of an entertainment level. Then there's a leader assisted. And this leader assisted is more the typical seance that you all think of. It has to be dark because it's the realm of spirits.
It's usually a smaller group. It's led by medium. The skeptics didn't like the idea of the dark back when they were debunking this because that's when you can kind of put your strings that are attached to things and lift the table up with your knees to make it move and then having the lights off, hit all that deception. I was reading as I was doing some research on this.
And a lot of times they would all hold hands. And the medium would let go of the hands and clasp the hands of the two on either side of them together. So they thought they were still holding the mediums hands. And he would shake the table or something with their hands and deceive them because their eyes are closed, right?
You know, it's dark. Yeah, it's easier to do stuff like that when it's dark. There's informal seances. And these are usually Ouija board based because Ouija board is just basically a type of a seance.
And a lot of people think that Ouija boards came about because of the seances as a way to speak. Not only Ouija boards, but also assisted writing. And then the last one that I saw was spiritualists. And I didn't really see how this was much different than the leader assisted.
The only difference is it's not required to be dark for spiritualists, seance. But other than that, it was the same as the leader assisted, which was just kind of your typical seance. So. Doc, did you have any experience when you're in Russia with this kind of thing at all?
Heard hear anything about it or kind of the beliefs over in Russia around these things? It's interesting. When I was there, there was kind of a new age push in Russia. A lot of interesting theories about extraterrestrials, God, ghosts, you name it.
I was never directly involved with any type of seance, but it was definitely something that was out in the mindset of the people there. Yeah, I can't think of any particular experiences off the top of my mind. But I do know that there was a big focus on the paranormal during the time, but I was in Russia. Russians are fairly superstitious people.
They have superstitions about everything. Like, cool, for you's coming through your house. Shake an answer, a doorway whistling in your home. They think you're going to lose all your money if you whistle in the house.
I think as a superstitious people, the idea of communicating with the dead is something that's still fairly prominent there in Russia. Thanks, that's interesting. Very interesting. We've been talking a lot about the Victorian times, but this isn't necessarily when seance has started.
It's just when they kind of got really popular. In the first book of Samuel, in the Old Testament, they actually kind of talked about something that could be considered a seance, probably a spiritualist seance. King Saul, it says in the first book of Samuel that King Saul had a witch conjure the spirit of his mentor, Samuel, to help him with the battle. Anything that involves conjuring, I'm just going to say, don't do it.
Don't do it, because I'm not an expert in Old Testament going on, so I've read the Old Testament. I think whatever was conjured was probably not King Saul, would be my first go-to answer. We have more than likely to type three. That's kind of where I'm going with that.
Yeah, so you've got Samuel with his witch conjuring spirits. And again, that would be considered a seance, because they went looking to speak to someone specific. And then even in ancient Greece, they had a temple called the Oracle of the Dead. And these oracles were built specifically as places to communicate with the dead.
So that could also be interpreted as a seance, since you're going intending to speak to specific people. Anyway. So they've been around the wild. They have been.
Vikings had those oracle type things, too. But they used a lot of hallucinogenics for theirs. You know, that is kind of widespread, doesn't it, the Native Americans that will use peyote to get to a certain... Connect with their spirits.
To do some connecting. I know I have watched certain ghost hunting shows where they will have a seance to try to connect with whatever is there, where they're investigating. And as soon as they started doing that, I immediately shut down from their shows, because to me, that's not responsible. You're bringing stuff in rather than investigating what is there.
So certain he shall who not be named the dead of the couple of times. Exactly. That's exactly who I'm talking about. So, you know, to each their own, but it's not something that we condone or encourage.
Practice. Just because it's too dangerous, it's too iffy. So Emmett, what do you have for us today? OK.
You know, sometimes we're investigating, and we come to a wall or something, and we think something, we get a feeling there might be something behind the wall, or we get an EMF reading or something, but we just can't get into these places, or it's in a crawl space or something. So I was just on Amazon, and it happened to find this industrial endoscope. It's not medical grade. You know, you're gonna go out and become an amateur.
Proctologist. I was just gonna say, I'm not gonna bend over anywhere near you anytime soon. Well, and I don't even think this thing could be sterilized. So, the need to be sterilized if you do it enough.
It wouldn't work afterwards. So Emmett, when no one goes down to anywhere near you, you know why now? Because they're afraid. They're afraid they sure am.
A back door visitor. Whoo! Hey, it's a device you're looking up here, friends. So it's got a 15 foot bendable cable.
You know, it doesn't flop around. You can actually make it stiff, like a wire pulling thing through walls. So, and the resolution is really good. It's actually a true high def camera, and it has a light on the end.
So you can put it in between walls. Or like indoors where they won't go in. Indoor is now doors, right? I can see in their anyway.
Then pipes, yep. And it also, it sees in the infrared. So it's got night vision. Yeah.
Nice. And it was fairly inexpensive. I remember years ago, you know, we could get these for a few hundred dollars, but you know, thanks to things like Black Friday and Amazon Prime deals. You know, they're 60 bucks.
Oh, wow. So that's my gadget. And for this time, it's cool. You can just zoom in and out, adjust the brightness, the contrast.
Pretty neat gadget. You know, I don't see us needing this very often, but when we do, there's just nothing else will work. No, I can see some very, there were some places in P.O.T.H. that we were not able to get into, and not because we were told no.
We just didn't know it was there, and we didn't know who you were to walk around it. And they were broken windows. And that would have fit through the hole and broken windows. Okay, we're definitely taking it on the next road trip.
Wow, this is the grapeless, everything. As long as I don't bend over, I'm good. I'll let you hold it, don't worry. Okay.
You can carry it around. Just make sure you're in front of you. LAUGHTER Okay, okay. Speaking of cool toys, be sure to check out AdvancedPairnormal.com.
We've got a shop there that has sage sprays and stones and all sorts of other things, everything you need for your, I thought there was a EMF meter on there, a K2 meter. Check it out. Buy something for Christmas or the fam. You know you want something super natural out of your tree.
Or your spooky friend. Absolutely. This is the time of year. You should be, you know, restocking your kits, you know?
Checking the batteries. Yeah, and say get your sage spray and cleaning out the up and chip bags. All the other expendables and yep, that's the time. I might have a half eaten bag of crunchy cheetos in my bag.
Sometimes you're hungry, you gotta eat, right? So Jess isn't here, and we miss her, like we said before, she will be back soon, we hope. Oh, she is actually having surgery. She had a little health scare, yeah.
She's going in, I think it's Friday. But yeah, they had to take her out of school. She's a teacher. They had to take her out of school in an ambulance.
She just, she fainted away. And fortunately they found the problem. It's going to be correctable with fairly minor surgery. Oh good.
Okay. So as soon as we hear how it went, we'll let you know. Yeah, she's usually really good about letting me know she's going to be there or not. And I hadn't heard from her, so I was a little worried.
She's getting that new school this year, it's been tough, but yeah, she wants to come back. Good, well we're excited for her to come back. So, Moon, I'm going to put you on the spot. I did not tell you about this.
Okay. I would like for you to tell us what either your favorite ghost hunting experience has been or your favorite piece of equipment to use. Maybe I'll do both. Perfect.
I was actually thinking about this earlier today because I had a feeling, you know, always my favorite place that I've done as a public investigation has been at Pete Me. My very first time there, we got so much activity and like first time I got like an into the headache, going down the stairs. I was like, what is going on? This is so different.
But that gave me like all the feels. I had like activity in almost every room. One of my favorite things is the cheapest things of all time. I get so much activity with the cat ball a lot.
And I noticed a lot of times that there's kids around. They love playing with those. So, I like to use that. But I use a K2 a lot as well.
And I always do an EVP session. I've got a couple good EVPs in Monday. My favorite residential was I think it was in Saratoga Springs maybe a year or two ago. We went upstairs and I had my EVP recorder.
And there was a negative room where they think they, there was a Ouija board that happened maybe with the previous owners upstairs. And this house just felt so heavy. I've never felt so heavy in my life. I mean, I have since then, but I was newer, you know?
So I go into this house and it was crazy. And we go up there and my friend who is pretty sensitive. I have her, I had her hold my EVP and she got me some great EVPs. I noticed I don't get as good of EVPs if it's just me because they're like moon, you're dense.
They don't talk to me as much. But was this a residential that had the little boy that drowned and he was going home to the cat? Yes. I was going to get to that.
No, I'm sorry. But yeah, we had to clean out the Type 3 and he was trying to act all big and he was not. But we got a little bit active in there and then we went into the other room and we had the cat balls. And I was talking to this little boy.
And I had an app on my phone that would just give words. And it said fire. It wasn't drowning. It was a fire actually.
We talked to him. We helped that kid cross over. And I went home and I listened to these EVPs. And as I was having my friend hold, my EVP, that's sensitive, there was like a big growl.
And right as this big growl happened, my EVP, my friend goes, whoa, this feels so heavy in here. And then there was one more. And he sounded like Darth Vader. When we were, I think we were about to clear him out.
And he was like, oh, it was funny. It was not something I expected. You do a good Darth Vader. I mean, I have practice.
I have all these brothers. I'm going to watch that growing up. So it's in the back of my mind. I'm here to get a quack.
If you need me, I charge for my voiceovers. Anyways. And so then we went into the back room. And I was listening to my EVP.
And I was so excited. I got one EVP. And I'm sending it to Raven. I was sending it to Raven.
I'm like, oh my gosh, look what I just got. And then I heard another one, like 20 minutes later. And then another half an hour, I got another one. I was like, wow, this is like golden EVP hour.
And the last one was the little boy. And it was so sad. But he says, help me. He whispered it.
And it just helped me drag out. And I was like, oh my gosh. I thought I was the magic trick. But then my friend, she ended up moving and isn't on the team anymore.
And I don't get EVP's like I used to. And it's weird because Castle gets amazing EVP's. You get a good EVP. And there's a lot of people.
I can sit there with a recorder for hours. And I get nothing. They're like, she can film me. I don't need to talk to her.
Yeah, I get nothing. So. Yeah, but you get photographs like nobody's business. Oh, yes, you do.
I did get pictures. But here we go. Here we go. I'm going to have some haters here.
I had a Samsung phone. And then I made the switch to iPhone. But my Samsung took better pictures of my iPhone. Hands down.
Hands down. No questions. Weird. So I just want to remind everybody of our shop at eventspurnum.com.
It's still winter. Get your sweaters. Get your now we have beanies. There's a lot of stuff.
It's get your warm apparel for winter. Absolutely. When I left to go to school today, it was 25 degrees, which is why I have my beanies. I don't know why I live in Utah.
I don't like the cold. So I'm always in like hoodies, coats, heated coats, beanies, socks. If you want the beanies, so you have to contact us directly. So the junk drawer today, I have a story about a bruised man, the bruised man of Friendsville, and how a chest full of haunted artifacts saved someone from being murdered.
That sounds kind of interesting. It is. So I can believe that about the cursed objects, though. Yes.
So the cursed objects saved him. They didn't try to harm him much. That was interesting. So it's about this fellow.
And I don't. Oh, his name is Greg Newkirk. And Tina's wife have the traveling museum of the paranormal in a cult. And that's him and his wife, Dana.
And because they've got all this stuff, they've run into spirits that are restless. And sometimes they might play their car with some car troubles or play pranks or whatever. And so it's not strange to them to have weird experiences, because they haul around all this haunted stuff. And so he's just in the story, he's like, even though they play pranks on this and do as dirty sometimes, he says, I do think that they enjoy hanging out with us.
And this is a story that they saved his life. So they were on their way back from an event in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. And they decided, this is kind of fun. We're going to drive down the coast of New England.
We're just going to kind of see some sights and take it slow. And their headquarters are incense and adding. And so they thought we're just going to kind of have a fun drive back. So they find themselves.
Wait, when was this again? This was in, well, he published the story in 2016. So it's fairly recent. OK.
So they find themselves in West Virginia. They stop at a gas station. And it was about two o'clock in the morning. And they needed a refuel.
So they're gassing up. And the husband goes in to get a snack. And the voice came up behind him. And he says, hey, I love your bumper sticker, buddy.
And he turns around. And then he says, in a camouflage jacket. He's pointing to the bumper sticker. And the bumper sticker says, honk if you listen to Art Bell.
And the guy in the jacket goes coast to coast was my favorite radio show. And so they start talking because they both like the coast to coast radio show. In the course of the conversation, they bring up Bigfoot, Mufan, and Planet Weird. And so the man says, are you a paranormal investigator?
And the fellow says, well, I prefer a professional weirdo. Kind of joking. But he said, yeah, he says, I kind of chase monsters and paranormal for a living. And the camouflage man says, well, if you want to see monsters, you need to go out to Fransville.
He says, there's a graveyard just outside of town that's got a creature in it. It's got big red eyes. People see this creature all the time. And so this man says, wow, I like an adventure.
And we're just kind of tooling around. And it's two in the morning. And what else are you going to do? And so we had the man jot down the directions of how to get there on this crap of paper.
And you can't see the pictures here. But on the website where I found this, there's actually pictures of all this stuff. So you can see the piece of paper. And so he puts Fransville, which was the basic town into his GPS, tells his wife, hey, we're going to go check out this haunted cemetery.
So they go be bumping down to where this is. So it took him about a half an hour. And it's two in the morning, three in the morning. He's like, it's really quiet, really dark.
It seemed really empty. They just not very many people around. And so they go a couple miles out of town, and they find the cemetery. And so they're driving down this road.
And so they've got their ice peels, right? Because they're looking for this creature with red eyes. They're going on for a while. And he was just about to be marked to his wife that he thinks that the gas station was scamming him.
And all of a sudden, they were blinded by high beams of light in their rear view mirror. And then got in the car crash. They just, you know, you've all heard that crash when you get in the car wreck. Just metal crunching.
And their car kind of lurched ahead a little bit from the impact. His wife says, oh my gosh, does someone just hit it? He hit the car. So he throws the car into park.
He gets out. He says, that's the damage, what we all do, right? And he says, behind him was a great big boat of a car. It was a Lincoln.
So thinking of one of the old gigantic Lincoln's. Says, the driver gets out, and the dome light in the car kind of illuminated all the people in the car. He says, in the back seat, there was two nearly identical men. They had big bushy, mustaches, and big bushy shoulder length hair.
And I'm just going to read this word for a word that's hilarious how he describes it. He says, in the passenger seat was a woman who looked like a low rent, dolly pardon. Bleached blonde hair puffed high to the car ceiling, bright makeup applied with a shotgun and earrings that sparkled in the dim light. So if that doesn't paint a picture for you, I don't like this.
And so he says that the way they were dressed, they all look like they were on their way to church in 1974. Not just church, but church in 1974. So probably kind of got eaten polyester. Big wide color.
So he says that I remember 1974. I don't remember it. I was alive during it, but I don't remember it. Let me emphasize that.
So he says, though, that the driver was the one that really kind of impressed him the most. He says, the driver's door slams shut, the dome light clicks off. So everybody inside the car is kind of thrown into darkness. And he says that the driver lurched towards him.
He says he had a bolo tie on, thinning hair that was kind of slicked back, several days of stubble on his face. And he says that he could see, because he kind of passed through his headlights. And he said that he could see that the entire left side of his face was covered in a purple bruise. His eyes were bright red.
He says, you know, like every vessel in his eyes had burst. And so he says, that just really stood out to me. And I'm thinking of purple bruise on half of his face. Probably, I don't remember.
Doc, you would know what this is called. What is that when you see the purple bruises on people's faces is it's got a name. When you see purple bruises on people's faces? Yeah, well, not like the bruise, but it's like the giant birthmarks.
It's called a pork wine. Yes. Pork wine, stain, is what they call it. It's a birthmark, essentially.
Yeah. And so when I read that, I thought, I wonder if that's what it was if it was a pork wine stain. But he says it just kind of caught him off guard. And that's not something that he expected to see.
But he said it was just really unsettling, not so much his appearance, but just the feeling that he had met this man before. He said something about him seemed very familiar, but he couldn't really place who or how. And so he says he just calls him the bruise man. He says the bruise man said, I am so, so sorry.
By the time I saw you, I just couldn't hit the brakes fast enough. You know, house the damage. Everybody OK? And he says, I'm good.
That's what Bumpers are for. He says, as I stood up, I saw the bruise man. Actually, in 1974, when bumpers actually did something. Absolutely right.
Sure, when they were metal and not aluminum and bent at everything. Or plastic. Plastic, right? Yes.
He says that the man is kind of looking in the back of his car. And in the back of his car, they've got all of these boxes and trunks with their hundreds of stuff in it, right? The bruise man noticed that this husband was kind of looking at him and kind of caught him looking. He said, oh, don't worry about my old rust bucket.
He says, it's you I'm worried about. I just want to make sure everything's OK. Let's exchange information. And there's nothing wrong with that.
When you get in an accident, you exchange information, right? And I believe that the man in the store is named Greg. Greg shook his head and said, no, that's OK. But the man insisted.
He says, no, I insist. You know, if something comes up later, I want you to be able to take care of it. And so Greg reluctantly got back in his car, he gets in the driver's seat. He leaned over his wife to get to the glove box so he'd get out the information.
And she's asking, is everything OK? Are we going to make it home? What's going on? And so Greg told her about the people in the car, and that he insisted that they changed information.
And he says, all of a sudden, he was distracted by strange noise. And they both kind of felt silent when they realized that one of the boxes in the back of their car had just started to shake violently. And I had never done that before. And he says, it sounded like something in there was just trying desperately to escape.
And so he turned his head to try to figure out where this noise was coming from. And he saw this strange man. And he says, rather than retrieve the paperwork from his glove compartment, he popped his trunk. And he was making his way to the back of the Lincoln.
