This volume demonstrates both that the rigorous study of the Chinese martial arts is possible within an academic setting, and that it can contribute to the discussion of basic questions in fields as diverse as history, anthropology, urban planning and media studies. History is a critical aspect of the Chinese martial studies, but the field touches on the many other disciplines as well. Professor Adam D. Frank currently teaches Asian Studies at the Honors College of the University of Central Arkansas. This book emerged out his dissertation research. Frank was advised by Deborah Kapchan and Avron Boretz (author of Gods, Ghosts and Gangsters, Hawaii 2011) at the Anthropology Department of the University of Texas in Austin.
