Season 1 Episode 40: Reflections from a Monumental Year

In Episode 40 of the Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav reflect on the past school year, and all that it brought forth. They started the conversation by discussing what it was like for them as educators to start their own podcast. They discuss that they have they have connected with teachers all over the world, been invited to participate in conversations and chats that have led to some of the most high quality learning they have ever experienced in their careers, due to the podcast and The Drive radio show.  From there, they went on to discuss the monumental change in their teaching practice with the onset of Covid-19. From Crisis Learning, to new technologies, to the development of a teaching platform that has evolved from something that was barely functional to something that might be sustainable, was a huge shift for all teachers.  There was then the tragic event of George Floyd's murder, followed by a reawakening for many educators on the dire need for anti-racism work in their classrooms. Chey and Pav reflected on the learning they have done, and the conversations they have been able to have with their students and colleagues on Black LIves Matters and Equity work. They reflected on what this means for them, and other educators, going forward.  Chey and Pav introduce Jamie Brown, a VP at Holmdel High School in New Jersey for their 3 Enlightened Minutes segment. Jamie talks about Social Emotional Learning in schools, and working with the Whole Child.  After the 3 Enlightened Minutes segment, Chey and Pav wrap up by talking about the fear that exists now, for returning to a regular school program when so much has shifted during this remote learning time.  Remember to Inspire, Don't Require, always be a Humble Servant, and Education Never Dies.
