Season 1: Episode 5 - Creating Classroom Culture

Episode 5 of "The Staffroom with Chey & Pav" features discussion about what makes great Classroom Culture. Chey and Pav talk about about the list of 10 items that promote a healthy and positive Classroom Culture by Educational Guru, George Couros. Chey starts by discussing the list - Pav mentions we came across it on Twitter and it had a great impact on both of them - Chey mentions it was key in giving them some validation, in that these are things they were doing already, and so it was nice to know they have been setting up for a healthy classroom setting. They start by discussing greeting students at the door in the morning, and how important that has been for creating a good classroom culture with their classes. Pav gives an anecdotal story about how important the morning greeting has become for her classes. The hosts then go on to talk about making contact with parents early in the year, and also discussing positive phone calls with parents. They discuss decorating the classroom with students assistance and starting the school year with a blank slate. They also talk about tapping into the passions of students, and also utilizing student voice. Chey and Pav give some ideas about what they would include as an 11th item on their list on how to improve Classroom Culture at their school.
