Something slightly chaotic. I ran a 5K Turkey Trot with the Atlanta Track Club on Thanksgiving morning — and it turned into one of the most meaningful, empowering starts to the holiday I’ve ever had. I wanted to do something that represented balance — something active before a day full of comfort, family, and food. Running a 5K on Thanksgiving morning felt like the perfect mix of: Movement Motivation Community Gratitude And honestly? I just wanted to say I did it! Race Morning: Early, Cold, and Full of Energy Let me set the scene:It’s early. It’s cold. My alarm is going off way too soon. But when I arrived at the starting line, everything changed. The energy was electric — families, seasoned runners, first-timers, kids, and even people dressed as turkeys. Atlanta Track Club always brings the hype, and this morning was no different. Music was blasting. People were smiling. There was this shared sense of “We’re all out here doing something for ourselves today.” The Run: The Highs, The Lows, The Laughs The first mile felt good. The second? I started asking myself deep life questions.By the third mile, I was bargaining with my own spirit:“If you finish this, you deserve two plates at dinner.” But the cheers from strangers, the encouragement from other runners, and the feeling of being part of something bigger carried me through. Crossing that finish line felt powerful — not because it was fast or perfect, but because I did something I once thought was impossible. What This Turkey Trot Taught Me Running a 5K on Thanksgiving Day taught me: ✔ You can start your day with a challenge and end it with gratitude. ✔ Your body is stronger than your doubts. ✔ Community can push you further than you’d go alone. ✔ Gratitude is amplified when you do something meaningful. This experience reminded me that traditions can evolve — and that sometimes, joy comes from trying something new. Final Thoughts Whether you’re a runner, a walker, or just someone who loves a good story — I hope this inspires you to try something bold. You don’t need a holiday to push yourself, but let me tell you… starting Thanksgiving with a win hits different. Here’s to movement, gratitude, and traditions that make us better.
