Season 1 Podcast 28, A New Voice of Freedom, Argument for the Existence of God, “Opposition, Agency, and Justice.”As a rule, we don’t like opposition. We don’t like people or obstacles or opposing forces to stand in our way. How we deal with opposition, particularly in social and governmental affairs, is what separates those who prefer tyranny from those who prefer agency. But what would happen if all opposition were removed from our lives? Take gravity for example. One of my favorite morning walks, with the fewest dogs, is a four-mile circle over winding mountain roads. I live in the Smoky Mountains. My cabin, overlooking a large creek, is in a holler. My driveway is long and steep, and at the end of the driveway, the mountain road just gets steeper. It is in the deep woods. My wife and I have been confronted with vicious, snarling dogs, two wild hogs, flocks of turkeys, and one black bear. The narrow unpaved mountain road has sharp switchbacks and steeper climbs, and the relentless climb continues for several miles. Once I reach the top of the mountain, it is downhill for a mile or so until I reach the winding creek which I follow home. I come into the cabin along the creek road the back way. Gravity is my enemy crawling up the mountain and my friend jogging down the mountain. But what would happen if gravity were removed or suspended? As we know from space walkers, the muscles begin to atrophy, and bones begin to deteriorate. Wikipedia reports that there is a “slowing of cardiovascular system functions, decreased production of red blood cells, balance disorders, eyesight disorders, and changes in the immune system.” Those are just part of the problems. Without opposition, the body would soon die, and slow evolution could not save us; therefore, opposition is essential in everything. Even atoms have three constituent parts: protons, with a positive charge, electrons, with a negative charge, and neutrons, with no net charge. The electrons, attracted to the nucleus by an electromagnetic force, orbit the protons. It would remain that way forever if some outside force did not intervene, thus allowing molecules and other types of chemical compounds to form. Imagine a world made up of only neutrons. There would be nothing rather than something.Consider our solar system which functions by gravitational attraction. What if there were no attraction or repulsion? Consider our galaxy without opposing forces. Again, there would be nothing rather than something. What is true for the physical dimension is also true for the metaphysical dimension. Wherefore:Everything has its opposite. 2 RONWithout opposition things would be in a state of limbo, neither alive nor dead. Nothing can be comprehended except through opposition. If one never felt misery, one could never feel joy, but true opposites exist only in absolutes, and absolute evil is the opposite of absolute good, just as absolute chaos is the opposite of absolute order, absolute darkness is the opposite of absolute light, and absolute lawlessness is the opposite of absolute law. Think of chaos as a completely disorderly state. Scientists call it maximum equilibrium or giant heat death. What brings order out of chaos or maximum disorder? Science is faced with a huge dilemma when trying to discover the origins of things. How, for example, can order come out of chaos unless there is an outside force? The answer is that order can never come out of chaos unless there is an outside force. Something can never come from nothing. The Big Bang, if it occurred, could never organize itself. Disorder or chaos cannot randomly produce order. The same can be said for evolution. Evolution cannot occur randomly because order cannot occur randomly.&nb
