Season 1: PRESSURE Episode

from Mindset Monday · host Drew DeMaree | Business Coach & Trainer

Guest - Jennifer McMurdy http://www.capitolinspections.com/ So why would we be born with this feeling of stress?  Why does it create such a paralyzing feeling? I see it in my clients. They give up rather than pushing into stress. Stress causes such mental and physical side effects. Ulcers. Depression - Serious problems So how can I create a growth mindset around STRESS? Think about this….to me stress or pressure or interchangeable words: Water at 211 degrees is super hot right? and yet 212 degrees that same water boils and turns to steam. Think about it? Just one degree of this pressure changes water into an object that allows trains to move and machines to run. Why is it that we have a mindset that stress/pressure is bad? I wanted to dig in a find out what stress is? Fight or flight response: When we feel stress, our body is sending us a signal about how the pressures we experience affect us physically and mentally. Much like a caveman running from a woolly mammoth, stress triggers a “fight or flight” response. Boosts speed: We get a turbo boost of speed, strength, and senses that can be an incredible advantage in our everyday lives More Alert and Focus: Stress hormones that increase your alertness when it’s most needed Better your health?: You need a healthy immune system to help fight off infections and disease, and believe it or not, the right kind of stress can actually help your body’s defenses against illness. Less stress leads to complacency: Too little stress at the workplace can lead to complacency and affect how much you actually get done. When you take risks and choose to attack hurdles at work, it helps your mental toughness and self-confidence. And these are qualities that can increase your marketability and promotion opportunities. Manage the stress and you will get an advantage over colleagues who let stress overwhelm them. Stress creates new adventures: Think about some stressful situations that we consciously put ourselves in to make life more interesting and enjoyable. Challenges like asking someone out on a first date, facing and conquering a known fear, interacting with people you’ve never met, even learning something completely new. MINDSET MONDAY PODCAST QUOTE: Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something that we love is called passion.
