Leadership is a topic that has been on Jason and Phil's mind a lot lately. This episode is not to stir the political pot because we would like to think this podcast is more or less neutral on politics, and we think that’s a good spot to be in because it’s not our focus! Anyway...what we do see is some questionable leadership practices and choices from people in high level leadership positions in our country. That being said, we decided to do a quick review of what it actually means to be a leader in theory and in practice ****we are not the experts, but we have some ideas based on our combined years of service in the military and being leaders in our own households and businesses that enables an interesting discussion on the topic. Enjoy! Show notes: The Army leadership Be Know Do BE – this is all about your character as a leader and is foundational to your ability to lead. It gives you the courage to do what is right regardless of the circumstances or the consequences. As part of BE, you should be aware of your personal core values as well as your organization’s values. For the Army, their values are: Loyalty Duty Respect Selfless Service Honor Integrity Personal Courage KNOW – This is about the knowledge and skill sets you need to be competent as a leader and cover four areas: Interpersonal skills Conceptual skills Technical skills Tactical skills Your mastery of the knowledge and skills required for your role are essential to the success of your organization. DO – Leaders act. They bring together everything they are, everything they believe, and everything they know how to do to provide purpose, direction, and motivation.
