The Mission of the Mortal Messiah: Titles of the Mortal Messiah, Pt. B.No writer was more gifted than John the Beloved. John gives us this amazing introduction of Christ.14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (John 1:14-18)What is the Word? I have pondered that so many times. It testifies of the premortal existence of Christ. John the Baptist, speaking of Christ, said, “He was before me.” But we know that John the Baptist was born before Christ. The Word, for me, refers to the Christ of the Old Testament. The God who gave us the Ten Commandments and the law. The Word is the law. John further describes The Word: “Full of grace and truth.” One of the roles of Christ, Or Jehovah as he was known in the Old Testament, is to bear witness to the existence of Elohim, the Father. Christ embodies all the attributes of his Father.  The reason Christ was perfect was because he obeyed God, the Father of us all, perfectly. Christ understood his own divine heritage. He was the only begotten Son of God. Christ said, 30 I and my Father are one. (John 10:30)Some understandably assert, because of that verse, that the Father and the Son are the exact same person. It creates all kinds of difficulty, however, when you try to reconcile all the other scriptures referring to the Father and the Son. Christ makes it clear that he was sent by the Father to do the will of the Father.16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. (John 7:16-18) Some of the titles of Christ make it clear that he born into mortality 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (Galatians 4:4)He came through the seed of Abraham, the covenant people1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. (Matthew 1:1)He was born of Mary. Though the only begotten son of God, the world saw him as the mortal son of Mary and Joseph with ordinary brothers and sisters. For that reason many rejected him.3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Jones, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. (Mark 6:3)Some even called him sinner, fraud, and devil.63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. (Matthew 27:63)
