Season 3 Podcast 77 Descriptions of the Resurrected Christ Pt A
from A New Voice of Freedom · host Ronald
Descriptions of the Resurrected Christ Pt AIn the Book of Revelation John who saw Christ in vision gives us many vivid descriptions of the glorified resurrected Lord. In this podcast we would like to present those descriptions followed by a brief discussion. Let’s begin with Chapter 1: 12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. Revelation 1:12-16The above describes our risen Lord in his glory shortly after he was taken up from the earth. Many saints were priviledged to see the resurrected Lord, immediately after his resurrections, but he did not appear in his glory. At first they didn’t even recognize him, he looked so ordinary. 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? (Luke 24:27-32) Later he eats fish with his disciples. 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. (Luke 24:36-43) In John the Revelator’s description, however, we are shown Christ in all his glory. “His eyes were as a flame of fire”; “his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.” In all the four gospels, after his resurrection, Christ appears as an ordinary man. Many weren’t even sure who he was. All of his appearances described in the Book of Revelation, however, depict a God of unimaginable splendor.
