The Last Days Pt III The Ancient Prophesies of the Second Coming of ChristThe story of Job remains dateless, but we can assume from the earliest days the people of God were looking forward to the Coming of Christ, and were aware of his birth, death, resurrection, and of his Second coming. Many prophesies refer to the first coming of Christ, or the date of his birth in Bethlehem of Judea. Many prophesies refer to his second coming referred to by modern Christians as The Last Days, just prior to his Millennial Reign. In Job we read,25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: (Job 19:25)Obviously, that refers to the Second Coming, or the Millennial Christ. The “latter days” always refers to what is conveniently called “end time” or “end of days.” Though the Second coming does occur at the end of the world as we know it, it is not literally the end of the World. The Second coming occurs at the beginning of the Millennium or Millennial reign in which earth will enjoy a period of peace lasting a thousand years. The earth will be elevated but not translated, glorified, but not celestialized, sanctified but not changed into its final state. It will be the abode of the Son, but not the Father. That is reserved for after the final Battle.  After the Millennium, for example, Satan is loosed for an unspecified period. John the Revelator tells us:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (Revelation 20:3)In the Old Testament no prophets spoke more of Christ than the Psalmist David and the futuristic prophet Isaiah. 7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. (Psalm 24:7)16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory. (Psalm 102:16)The Prophet Isaiah echoes the same sentiments.3 ¶ The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. (Isaiah 40:3-5)Christians are not timid about claiming that there is one Lord, one faith and one baptism, that Christ is the only creator, and that Christ is the only Lord, the only God, the only Savior and the only Redeemer and besides him there is none else.22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. 23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. (Isaiah 45:22-23)
