Season 4 Ep. #16 - Matt Costa

from The Self Portrait Gospel :: Podcast · host Primitive Man Soundz

Born and rasied in Huntington Beach, CA, Costa quickly became influenced and inspired by the rising scene of street skating that took the world by storm in the 1990's. With pioneers such as Jamie Thomas, The Gonz, Ed Templeton, Andrew Reynolds and so many others, Costa knew he wanted to be among his pioneers by becomig a pro rider. But with a severe leg injury, it quickly became apparant that this might not be in the cards for him. Costa began playing music during this time and with the love and support of his friends, he gave it a shot by sharing his other gift, songwriting. I've been a fan of Costa's music for quite some time and had no idea this episode of the podcast would be so genuine and fun! Costa's a special guy and one of the greats of our time. In this episode we explore his early years growing up in California, moving to Florida for a brief time, skatebaording, getting into music, his friendship with Jack Johnson and the Brushfire label, film making and so much more!
