Season 4, Ep. 3: Sorry to Bother You

Finishing up our celebration of Black Filmmakers for February, Reel Poppycock features the phenomenal film "Sorry To Bother You" as the pick to round out our unit. Written and directed by Boot Riley, 2018's "Sorry To Bother You" is a surrealist and scathing anti-capitalist masterpiece of movie making. The Poppycock crew delves deep into the hidden meanings behind Detroit's iconic earrings, and then delve even deeper into tossing tons of praise on Tessa Thompson, the actress who embodied Detroit so dynamically. So dynamically that Ed may have even been daydreaming about barb-wire-wrapped baseball bats towards a character, played by Steven Yeun, trying to "Squeeze" into Detroit's affections. KC gets to discuss David Cross and Patton Oswalt, some comedians they are quite fond of, who provide plenty of comical satire with their voiceover work in "Sorry To Bother You." We also bring back one of our favorite segments, DreamCast. Trevor may have picked the flick to cover this week, but he can't choose LaKeith Stanfield in his DreamCast, because it is a Lakeith Stanfield starring film.
