I am honored to have sat down with a true icon of 1980s genre cinema: Marc Singer. Join me and Marc Singer as we travel back to 1982 to discuss the legendary sword-and-sorcery epic The Beastmaster. Portraying the heroic Dar, a warrior with the extraordinary ability to communicate telepathically with animals, Marc defined the fantasy hero archetype for an entire generation. Being a movie that was brought into existence during the Golden Era, I feel that this set the tone for a lot of fantasy and action movies (and some remakes). The intense energy that was delivered for the role of Dar is immense and genuine given that this movie was filmed during the times of practical special effects. Over forty years later, the film’s message of harmony with nature and standing up against tyranny remains as powerful as ever—and Kodo and Podo still hold a very special place in all of our hearts.
