Secrets of Biblical Hebrew ~ Pt 7 ~ The Importance of a Name in Hebrew Thought

In Hebrew thought, your name represents your character, your calling and your spiritual destiny. This is why Yeshua was named salvation. Yeshua, in Hebrew, means salvation. That is who He is, that is His calling and that is his spiritual destiny. And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call his name YESHUA: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 Anther name that we look at in this teaching segment is “Babylon”: Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. Genesis 11:9 In another example of the significance of names, Babylon, in Hebrew, means “confusion by mixing”. We also learn in this segment about how the Hebrew language uses a root system for its vocabulary. The root system is like a tree where the leaves (words) come from the branches (child root). The branches come from the trunk (Parent root) and the trunk comes out of the roots (letters).
