Secrets of Biblical Hebrew ~ Pt 8 ~ Coming out from under Egypt and Pharoah

from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney

In this teaching segment, we look at the word Egypt, which in Hebrew, is Mitsrayim. This word is associated with distress and oppression. It is also associated with spiritual descent. When you go to Egypt, which represents the world and the world system, you go down: And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land. Genesis 12:10 Mitsrayim comes from the Hebrew word Matsowr, which means: besiege, siege, entrenchment. The root word is tsuwr and it means: to distress, to be an adversary, to show hostility, treat as a foe. We see then, that Egypt is a place of captivity, trials, tribulations and distress. Egypt is a place of spiritual bondage: And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour: And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour. Exodus 1:13-14 What is Egypt and Pharoah today? In this lesson we learn what they are today and learn the spiritual applications for how to avoid coming into bondage to Egypt and Pharoah in our lives.
