God through Christ in Bible days is Christ through the believers in our days.  God wants to do exactly through the believers as he did through Jesus.  The life and times of Jesus were to show us what we can.  God needs flesh. Jesus came in the flesh, he needs more Jesuses in the flesh doing the Jesus flex. God needs flesh.  He needs you.  He won't do it himself.
