TEACHING NOTES Micah was an 8th century BC prophet from Moresheth in the ancient Kingdom of Judah, called by God to expose the true spiritual condition of God’s people. In chapter 1, he summons all people to listen as the Lord comes near in judgement. Beneath the appearance of religious activity and political success, Micah saw what God saw: idolatry, injustice, and covenant unfaithfulness. He laments deeply for his people and warns them in mercy. Such is the nature of biblical prophecy: inspired by the Spirit, Scripture remains living and active across generations. For us today, Micah teaches us that God opens our eyes to reality as He sees it, and points us to what is our only hope: God’s mercy in Jesus Christ alone.
