Seek to understand, then to be understood

It’s not a simple task to get people to understand us. We all been in situations where we gave up on trying to be understood and started resenting others as a consequence or arguing away on deaf ears. The first step i took was to starting to understand myself and what i needed so i can start being interdependent in situations and relationships. I came to the realization that if being affected by being misunderstood was so frustrating, it’s because i didn’t understand myself to begin with. How did i expect myself to understand others if i didn’t even understand myself? Its not an easy task because if we understood ourselves so easily that would mean we’re simple and easy to figure out. Each of us is so complex and unique that only we can find our own truth. The most important takeaway is; understand ourselves first, that’s something that can only be done on your own or through guidance of a professional or emotionally intelligent individual. Now for the episode, I offer a little taste of the mindset shift i made to get more out of my relationships and how i handle situations better by implementing this approach. I do want to mention that i am still working on this and tend to disregard others in situations where i should be more mindful, although i am aware and constantly adjusting if i should put my energy in a individual, interaction, situation or not. It’s tough to master. Im not meant to understand everyone and personally, im not here to people please. I implement this mostly for relationships who hold value to me and thats what i try give back as a thank you for their presence. Ill practice expanding that when i see fit. As usual, there is no directed advice. Just a story and a principle i live by. If you wish, take what you need or disregard it. Everyone is on their own individual journey. I embrace that!
