Select Magazine - April 1993. With Andrew Harrison

from Litter On The Breeze - A Suede Podcast · host Litter On The Breeze Productions

Litter On The Breeze returns with an episode I always hoped I'd get to do at some point, but never imagined it would be this soon. Yes, I am talking to Politics Podcaster, music magazine editor and all-round chap Mr Andrew Harrison. Yes, that Andrew Harrison! In the course of today's episode we discover how he became the editor of Select Magazine and what his aims were for the publication, and then look closely at the in/famous front cover of Brett Anderson superimposed in front of a Union Jack, complete with the words 'Yanks Go Home!'. We find out where the idea came from, how it was all put together, and of course the wave of reaction it caused and still continues to cause!  I hope you all enjoy listening to this one as much as I did recording it ; very much a bucket list item (if people still say that!).Show Notes:The invaluable Select Magazine Scans page. Most of the editions themselves are incomplete, but everything you need re April 1993 at least is there."70 quid", indeed...!!!Here's Pet Shop Boys' version of 'The Dark End Of The Street', as mentioned by Andrew. Audio Credits:Crack In The Union Jack Live At The Astoria 1999Black Or Blue Live (Dog Man Star 20th Anniversary)Support the showFind us on Bluesky - @litteronthebreezeFind us on Instagram - @litteronthebreeze1If you have a testimonial about the band you'd like us to read out, or an in-depth idea for a future show or know of/would like to be a future guest, find us on email at [email protected] the podcast by buying a coffee!:) buymeacoffee.com/litteronthebreezeShow intro: 'Suede - Trash, Animal Nitrate and Beautiful Ones live at Glastonbury Festival 2015'We now have a Supercast where you can hear regular bonus episodes, submit questions for Q + As, get a shout out on the main feed and suggest ideas for future content!
