Self-Care and Caregiver Burnout - Relearning How to Take Care of Ourselves

from Moms Talk Autism Podcast · host Shannon Korza

Self Care! Yes, it's totally a buzzword these days, but we talk about it in conjunction with Caregiver Burnout and how imperative it is to not just recognize when we’re in that phase, but also how we can truly start making ourselves a priority. Self care can look luxurious but it's also very much about setting personal boundaries in our lives. Mental health should always be a priority for us as special needs parents. We truly hope that you will find something relatable from this episode, maybe even an “ah ha” moment, some insight on how you can better care for yourself in this marathon of Special Needs Parenting. We all fail at some point in caring for ourselves, but recognize that it's ok to ask for help. Caring for you is never selfish! *What are some ways in which you carve out time for yourself? And what are some of those self care routines? *How do you recognize you're getting to the burnout phase? And how do you advocate for yourself? *Make a list of small, simple things that you can implement into your daily routine that's just for you. Consider making a list of things that might be a little more “luxurious” and adding that into your monthly or bi-yearly routine. We'd love to hear from you, contact us! The moms talk openly about exhaustion, guilt, and burnout. They share how they’ve learned (and relearned) to make space for rest, even when it feels impossible.
