SELF-CONTROL IN ALL THINGS
from The Kingdom Of God First Podcast. · host Tewe Kolade Felix
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:25 "Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." Paul compares the Christian life to that of an athlete—disciplined, focused, and self-controlled. Just as athletes deny themselves comfort and distraction to win a temporary prize, we are called to practice self-control for a far greater reward: eternal life and spiritual maturity. Self-control is not merely about resisting sin; it's about aligning every part of our lives with God’s purpose—our time, our thoughts, our words, our desires. It means saying "no" to what distracts us and "yes" to what develops us. It is a fruit of the Spirit, cultivated daily through dependence on God. Without self-control, even great potential can be wasted. With it, we grow in strength, integrity, and effectiveness. The Holy Spirit empowers us to choose discipline over impulse and faithfulness over fleeting satisfaction. Today, ask yourself: What area of my life needs greater self-control? How can I submit that area to God's training and grace? Prayer: Almighty Father, strengthen me by Your Spirit to walk in self-control. Help me to train my heart, mind, and body in obedience to Your will. May I live purposefully, seeking not the temporary applause of the world, but the eternal crown You promise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
