Self-Control Thru the Holy Ghost

Send us Fan Mail - The phrase “self-control” is a better-used term than the word “temperance.”- At times, “temperance” is assigned only to certain vices some of us might deal with, like drinking, or smoking, or fornication, or adultery- But in Galatians 5:23, “self-control” is meant to address the entire person, including their personal appetites, physical, mental, and spiritual- The ability to be “temperate in all things” is an important Christian virtue- “Self-Control” is marked by growing in grace- There are some who may have the characteristic of “self-control” but it is not a result of the fruit of the Spirit.- Natural self-discipline is just that natural, where it implies that there is not help from God- As we discuss and have discussed the fruit of the Spirit, we are talking about the result of His help and grace, and the outworking of His Spirit in every believer- His help in our lives is for those who have a small amount of personal strength, as well as, those who have a large amount of personal strength- 2 Peter 1:5-7, “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and the brotherly kindness love.”
