Greetings, welcome to another episode of Truth to Power. I am your host, Tyra, tonight. Tonight, we start a little bit late. Supposed to have a cold host on, and they kind of change some things around and kind of change this particular broadcast around, only because you know I had a plane, I had some things going on also, personally.
And so, we had to switch this whole episode around. Initially, we were gonna be talking about duality. I guess they'll be up so far next week when I get back from New York. But tonight, I wanna talk about self-preservation.
I think self-preservation, the most black people, I wanna talk about self-preservation and self-actualization. Because those are two topics within Black society that are rarely discussed about pain. Also, when we're talking about self-preservation in Black society, people try to guilt trip you into thinking that it's such a bad thing when in all actuality, self-preservation is the law of the land. Self-preservation is the law of the earth, and the earth has certain laws within it.
And self-preservation is one of them. Now, for those who don't know what self-preservation means, that means the protection of one itself from home or death, especially regardless of basic instinct in human beings and animals. Now, like I said before, when we're talking about self-preservation amongst black people, people try to act like, it's such a bad thing. Like if you're preserving yourself, everyone's self is such a bad thing amongst black people.
Like we're supposed to be self-sacrificing rather than being self-preserved. And that's the wrong idea to have, because if you're so self-sacrificing and you make all these sacrifices, you have nothing left for yourself. As a matter of fact, I can almost guarantee you that you'll have nothing left for yourself. You'll be driving yourself crazy worrying about other people's needs, other people's feelings.
And now we're in about your own. Also, when you're being more self-preserving, in my opinion, you're a convish more. Now, and I can tell you this from personal experience. And I want you guys to think about this, not really think about this.
When you're in a relationship with somebody, whether it's romantic or not, or it's a business relationship, personal relationship, or a mental relationship. And they're kind of dragging their feet, they're not as ambitious as you. So I can talk to them for a minute. They're not as aggressive or assertive as you in life or in a relationship that you guys have.
What tends to happen is you tend to try to carry that weight. And they end up being dead weight on you. They end up hurting you, they end up hurting the brain, they end up hurting the company. All because they're too lazy to go about taking business, taking care of business for themselves.
And lately, we have seen a lot of that. We have seen a lot of that with other cultures as they come to the United States. They expect black people to take care of all their business for them. They expect a black group of five for them, five with them against their struggles.
But when they come down to black people's struggles, other racist turn their backs. They do. When they come down to black people's struggles, like I've just run off of sewer names of black people and it's a black ear that got killed. And I haven't seen, even from my Facebook, my Instagram, my social media, now one Latino, come to a one Asian, come to the defense, I want those black ears getting killed.
But now the eyes have got them in a box, got them trapped. Now they want to ask for the help of black people and black people are giving other people their help when we shouldn't. We select everybody in the words of the ring machine hold their own nuts because they don't care about us. And even foreigners, they look like us from other countries.
I say that too. They have their certain set of struggles as well. But they don't seem to care too much for us neither as foundational black Americans. They don't seem to care about our struggles in this country.
For even the thing that we go through on a day to day basis. Now past, present and counter struggles. But when they have certain things going on with them, all of a sudden when team white supremacy don't work out, you need more to come around and be around us, which brings me to my next part of self actualization. Now when we talk about self actualization, what we're talking about is the realization of fulfillment of one's tenets and potential, especially considered as a drive or need present in everyone.
Now when we talk about being able to self actualize us, we are talking about being able to find your passion and making your passion work for you, being the best at your passion. I recently discovered my passion is creating. I realized that I really had to think, I really had to go through the ups and downs, I had to go through so many other things to realize that my passion is creating. And create our will.
When it's creating songs, creating movies, create a podcast. So my passion is creating. And I like to create things. Whether it's maybe opportunities, I just really like creating.
And we as people have to understand that, and I think I talked about this on episode with Snicks one time, we as a people we have to realize that our self actualization doesn't lie in any type of school books. It just doesn't. Even as just regular human beings, but especially black people, our self actualization doesn't lie in school books. And once again, I say this, as humble as possible, you're talking to somebody that has a massive degree.
And I can tell you right now, that's not where my self actualization lies at, not in my studies, because I realized I want to be self sufficient financially, spiritually, physically, mentally. And these professions, these options are professions that they give you at the universities, they don't coincide with self-sufficiency at all. They just teach you how to be a well paid employee. But nobody teaches you how to be the CEO of a five Fortune 500 company.
Or a top five Fortune 500 company. You know what I'm saying? People don't teach you that. And they never will.
You have to go out there and get life experiences on your own, in my opinion. Only because after reading books, you know from different people, like a Warren Buffett, like Bill Gates, who I think went to college, but I think he dropped out of college. So basically he has a high school diploma. And all these people just sit at the top of the food chain, don't really have all these insurmountable degrees, all these big degrees, and all these degrees, and everything else.
They just remember, they just remember it at their point, because all they just break in, they're the biggest highest paid employee in the business. And that's nothing to break about when you're not on false. You're not at the top, you're not at the zenith. That's nothing to break about.
So when we talk about reaching self actualization, that's what I'm talking about. You know, let's have my dreams materialized. You know, I have big dreams, and people get only about that because they feel like my dreams are realistic, but my dreams have nothing to do with them. And that's why I tell them.
When we talk about this having dreams and just making them materialized, you got to block out all their noise from people. You got to block out all their hate-or-wreaths from people. Because people are going to try to discourage you, and it'd be like light discourages too. They might tell you something like, oh, well, if I was you, I wouldn't do that.
I wouldn't do this. And if I was you, and these are people that have never attempted to do what you're doing. Oh, well, what about this? Well, what about that?
They're all trying to plant their seeds and doubts, hoping that it branches into the tree. And it's up to you. It's up to you as a person to say, no, no, no, no, no. These are my dreams.
This is what I'm going after, right? Even if I just start from the bottom for a couple of years, I'm going to reach that pinnacle that I want to reach. I am experiencing all these things right now. I'm experiencing a lot of discouragement.
I'm experiencing a lot of, you know, doubt. A lot of people saying, well, I ain't going to do what I can't do. Or they're even just trying to throw little branches in your plane, little winters in your plane. They don't do anything.
They try to stop you from accomplishing your goal. But I'm telling you, as you reach that mountain, they say they walk after, and I like saying, whoa, zonli. For those who follow me, y'all know I like saying whoa, zonli. I have to raise my voice on that one.
It's whoa, zonli. They walk at the bottom that's hungry. They really want it. They're going to climb their mountain.
They're going to climb their mountain. They're going to leave a trail of rubbish. They're going to leave a trail of bodies in a way. They're ready to speak in.
But they're going to climb their mountain and they're going to get to the top of their mountain because they're hungry. They want it. Make no mistakes about it. I'm their wolf.
I want you all to be their wolf, especially if you're black. Especially if you're black. Yes, exclusively if you're black. Be that wolf.
And reach self-actualization. Now that'll be it for this evening's broadcast. Like I said, we had a lot going on with my co-hosts today. But hopefully she can do it next week.
Do that for someone next week if not, we'll make a new arrangement. I'm going to be out of town for a couple of days promoting this documentary. I'm going to be on the Karen Hunter Show in New York on Sirius X and Radio. If you guys have some radio, tune in.
It's like some urban view, by the way, for those who don't know. But I want to leave you guys. I will try to leave some positive. I want to leave you guys with a quote from one of my poems.
And it goes, before I have left this earth, I hope to have left fingerprints on your heart. And I truly and sincerely do. I just spoke truth to power. You guys have a good night.
