How you respond to each moment is a choice. No matter how frustrating or boring or constraining or painful or oppressive our experience, you can always choose how you respond.
Learning to self-regulate is mastery. Self-control is a strength. You have to get to a point where your mood doesn’t shift based on what's happening in the world around you.
Same goes for other people. It’s OK if someone’s in a bad mood. It’s not your job to “fix” it. It’s not your responsibility to walk on eggshells, keep asking what’s wrong, read their mind or come up with potential solutions.
Your job is to give them space to self-regulate and to offer support if they need it. Don’t allow your emotions or those of others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow their lack of emotional self-control limit yours.
