The work of salvation cost Jesus everything, but He gives it to us freely as a gift. Peter is not saying here that you have to be baptized to be saved. The gospel: “good news” God could have spread this news any way He wanted to, but He chose to use His people on the earth as messengers. Our job is not to save people, but to send the light.
