September 6: Amazon Cargo Plane Crash and AfD's German State Victory

At Miami International Airport An Amazon cargo plane arriving from San Juan overshot a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Video showed flames and heavy smoke around the aircraft. Officials had not confirmed injuries or fatalities. In Germany Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany, or AfD, is projected to win more than 44 percent in an eastern state election, far ahead of the conservative CDU at 18.4 percent. If confirmed, it would mark the first time a right-wing party has taken power in a German state since World War II. In Hawaii Hawaii declared a state of emergency as Category 3 Hurricane Lowell approached the islands. The storm had sustained winds of 125 miles an hour and could begin affecting Hawaii as early as Monday, the third storm to threaten the state in just over three weeks. In Cape Verde At least 25 people were killed when a passenger bus crashed on the mountainous Campanas de Cima route on Saturday. Authorities had not provided further details on the cause of the crash. In Indonesia Two new eruptions at Anak Krakatau sent more ash into the air and disrupted hundreds of flights. The volcano's latest activity is compounding travel disruption across the region. In Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the war appears likely to continue into winter after talks in Kyiv with U.S. envoys. He said Ukraine is seeking agreements with Washington and counting on continued European support.
