September 9: Air Traffic Control Failure and New York’s 9/11 Air Records
from Iniaes · host Iniaes
In air travel A technical fault at air traffic control provider Nats has cancelled hundreds of flights and delayed departures at several airports. Further disruption is expected while the fault is addressed, leaving airlines and passengers with the familiar modern aviation contingency plan: queues. In New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has released 170,000 pages of records on the city’s response to hazardous air after the September 11 attacks. Mamdani says the documents show people were misled about whether it was safe to breathe, and his proposed 2027 budget includes $34 million tied to the effort. In Massachusetts The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy has ended in a mistrial after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. Clancy admitted killing her three children but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with her defense arguing she was experiencing postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek another trial. At the Supreme Court The Supreme Court rejected Missouri’s emergency appeal to use a new congressional map in the midterm elections. The brief order means the state cannot put the map in place through this appeal. In media business The Justice Department is expanding its antitrust review of Fox’s proposed $22 billion acquisition of Roku and is expected to seek more documents and data. Regulators are examining whether combining Fox’s news and sports operations with Roku’s connected-TV platform could disadvantage rival streaming services or give Fox-owned outlets, including Tubi, preferential access to viewers.
