Serial Killer Charged in 1992 Cold Case
Ricky Dawson, a sixty-five-year-old inmate already serving a life sentence in Colorado for a 1996 murder, has now been formally charged with the 1992 cold case murder and rape of Nancy Hernandez in San Francisco. Investigators utilized DNA evidence from a database to link Dawson to Hernandez's death, as well as to three other sexual assault homicides across Florida, Washington, and Colorado. Although authorities have connected him to these additional violent crimes, including the 1996 slaying of Terri Turachak and a 2000 murder in Seattle, Dawson has pleaded not guilty to the recent charges. Law enforcement officials continue to view the San Francisco case as an active investigation while preparing for the defendant's upcoming preliminary hearing.
