Series 1, Episode 4: A brief history of dreams

from The Dream Boat · host DRI Centre for Dream Studies

Take a flight through dreams from the dawn of recorded history to the present day!  Dave and Laura guide you from ancient Sumer, India, China and Tibet, touch on African, Arabic, Jewish, and Christian traditions via Egypt, Greece and Rome, finally bringing you up to the modern day via Descartes, Freud and Jung. It turns out that dream sharing and interpretation have been an intrinsic part of being human since the dawn of time, influencing decisions large and small (to the chagrin of some commentators), connecting people and helping them find meaning in their lives.  In the "Dream of the Week" slot this week, Laura and Dave explore a dream of digging a manta ray up on a beach and finding a death's head on its belly. What is the dreamer unearthing in their consciousness?  Mentioned in this episode: The Chester Beatty Papyrus at the British Museum The Epic of Gilgamesh The Cave of Forgotten Dreams (Werner Herzog documentary) Vipassana meditation Emperors of Rome podcast Our African Unconscious: the Black Origins of Mysticism and Psychology by Dr. Edward Bruce Bynum Let us know what you think, and submit a dream for us to explore in on the podcast!  Instagram @thedreamboatpodcast FaceBook @dreamboatpodcast Twitter @dreamboatpod DRI website: driccpe.org.uk/contact  This podcast is a project of the DRI, the centre for dream studies at CCPE, the psychotherapy college overlooking the canals at London's scenic Little Venice.   Remember you can join the DRI for just £10 a year currently to access discounted events, courses, newsletters and join in the conversation about dreams.
