6 Lessons from the Oracles Against the Nations, Part 1 January 10, 2016 Isaiah 13-23 Pastor Tony Felich Isaiah 13:11-13 I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless. [12] I will make people more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir. [13] Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. Isaiah 14:1 For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob. Babylon 13:1-14:23 Egypt 19:1-25 Assyria 14:24-27 Cush and Egypt 20:1-6 Philistia 14:28-32 Babylon 21:1-10 Moab 15:1-16:14 Edom 21:11-12 Damascus 17:1-14 Arabia 21:13-17 Cush 18:1-7 Jerusalem 22:1-25 Tyre 23:1-18 God sent warnings (called oracles) to nations surrounding Israel so they would be without excuse when judgment fell and to warn Judah against making alliances with them. While these oracles are specific to particular nations in a certain time period, they contain valuable lessons about God’s character and what he desires of His people. God opposes pride and arrogance God judges, but always maintains a remnant (His people) Compassion over Oppression
