SERMON How to Guard Your Light; Matthew 2:13-15; 1/1/23

Matthew 2:13–15 The Flight to Egypt [13] Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” [14] And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt [15] and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” (ESV) Pray 1. What habit of daily prayer will I take up in the new year? 2. When is the best time for me to pray each day? 3. How can I invite other Christians in to this habit of prayer with me? Study 1. How will I get into God's Word this year? 2. Who will I study with? 3. When will I do this? 4. Who can I ask for help if I'm having some trouble or need some accountability? Suffer 1. Where am I experiencing suffering, trial, and temptation in my life? 2. How are these things an opportunity to find refuge in the love of Christ through deeper prayer and study? 3. How might God be getting my attention through these difficulties, showing me my need for deeper study and prayer? Repeat!
