Sermon on the Mount — Narrow Gate
from LifeWell Messages
This message carries the Sermon on the Mount toward its decision point in Matthew 7:13-23 . Jesus sets up stark contrasts with no third option: two gates, two roads, two destinations. The narrow gate and hard path lead to life and few find it; every other way, however enjoyable or admired, leads to destruction. Discipleship and salvation are held together rather than separated. To follow Jesus is to pledge allegiance to a King whose kingdom looks nothing like the powerful empire many expected, and the call is to a life of surrender, not merely mental assent or a moment at baptism. Leaders and our own lives are to be weighed by fruit, not by eloquence, success, comfort, or security. The sharpest words come last: not everyone who says Lord, Lord enters, and even miracle-workers may hear I never knew you . The test is not impressive deeds but union with Christ, being known by him, and the passage stands as a warning that still leaves a choice open.
