Sermon on the Mount Overview - May 3 2026`
from Erindale Bible Chapel · host Erindale Bible Chapel
In a world that measures success by power, recognition, and self-advancement, the idea of being “blessed” often feels tied to comfort and achievement. People speak of blessing as good circumstances, personal wins, or visible prosperity. Yet when Jesus speaks of blessing, He turns those expectations upside down. He describes a kind of life that does not chase status, does not depend on ease, and does not fit neatly within the values of a fallen world. To be blessed, according to Jesus, is not about having everything go right. It is about having God’s approval. It is about belonging to His kingdom and living under His rule, even when that places us at odds with the culture around us. This kind of life will often look strange. It will seem weak where the world demands strength, humble where the world celebrates pride, and merciful where the world seeks revenge. It is a life marked by paradox, where loss can be gain and sorrow can lead to joy. These are not natural instincts. They do not come easily to us. Yet they are the very qualities that define those who belong to God’s kingdom. We must see clearly that Jesus is not merely setting a standard for us to imitate. He has perfectly lived this life on our behalf. He is not only our model but our Saviour. It is through His righteousness that we are welcomed into God’s kingdom and empowered to live in a way that reflects it.Series: The Beatitudes: Kingdom Living in a Fallen WorldScripture: Matthew 5-7Speaker: Pastor David Hallett
