Sermon on the Mount - Preintroduction Part 2 (Wednesday Teachings)

from Eastview Baptist Church Teaching Podcast · host Eastview Baptist Church

Matthew 4 verses 17-24Big Idea: Before we can live the ways of the Kingdom, we must follow the King.Text Breakdown & Teaching Movements:1. The Message of the Kingdom (v.17)“From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.””Teaching Points:The Kingdom of Heaven is not a political regime but the reign and rule of God breaking into the world.Repentance (Greek: metanoeō) means a complete reorientation of mind, heart, and direction — away from sin and self and toward the King and His Kingdom. This is the same message as John the Baptist (3:2), showing continuity and urgency in God’s redemptive timeline.2. The Call to Discipleship (vv.18–22)“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”Teaching Points:Jesus initiates the call; discipleship begins with His invitation, not our search.“Follow Me” implies apprenticeship — learning not just knowledge, but lifestyle, character, and mission.Immediate response (vv.20, 22) reflects the authority of Jesus and the wholehearted surrender of true discipleship.“Fishers of men” repurposes their vocation toward a redemptive calling — gathering people into the Kingdom.3. The Power of the Kingdom (vv.23–25)Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Teaching Points:Jesus teaches, proclaims, and heals — embodying word and deed ministry.Matthew 4:24 — The Brokenness Jesus Healed“…They brought to Him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.”
