Sermon on the Mount — Treasures in Heaven

From Matthew 6:19-24 , this message presses a question of allegiance: do not store up treasures on earth, where they decay and are stolen, but treasures in heaven, because the heart follows the treasure. Much of what we invest in, from possessions to schedules to screens, ends up in the junk pile, while souls are eternal. A rope illustration borrowed from Francis Chan frames the point. Our time in this world is a small marked section of an existence that continues forever, and what is done in that brief span carries eternal weight. The passage is not finally about money but about the heart and about where ultimate loyalty lies; no one can serve two masters. The familiar phrase is corrected: not money but the love of money is the root of evil, because misplaced devotion always pulls a life away from God. Generosity is recast as joyful, even hilarious, investment in getting as many people as possible to the finish line and into eternity.
