Serve Jesus - We Are Harvest Ministry Spotlight

Pastor Tyrone Johnson, accompanied by First Lady Andrea from Serve Jesus Church (Deke Ministries), spoke at Church to Harvest during their Wednesday evening service. Introduced by Pastor Rhonda, who highlighted their ongoing seven-year outreach partnership, Pastor Tyrone shared his personal journey into ministry, including his early desire to serve, surviving a serious car accident that reinforced his calling, and his work as a hospice chaplain. The core message centered on John 20:21—"As the Father sent me, I am sending you"—as Pastor Tyrone emphasized that every believer is called to active ministry. He argued that Christians are meant to act as ambassadors of God's love rather than gatekeepers or "bouncers," using their unique gifts to serve others in daily life. He explained how Deke Ministries operates its "Welcome Home Church" outreach every Saturday at 485 Lowry Street. The program provides hot meals, clothing, supplies, and worship services to the local homeless population and surrounding community without judgment, treating every person with dignity and unconditional love. Pastor Tyrone also detailed how the ministry equips believers to serve through structured training programs. These include brief Saturday morning onboarding for new volunteers, a four-week Bible study covering core Christian doctrines, and ongoing practical lay-ministry training. He outlined immediate physical needs for their neighbors in the nearby tent city—such as winter coats, boots, toiletries, and pop-top canned goods—and shared upcoming goals for the ministry, including a Black Friday food truck festival, the annual Serve Jesus Gala in June, a Back to School program in July, and plans for a monthly thrift sale to help fund their efforts.
