Serving Marriages That Save Others

from universitychurchofchrist · host Rich Little

Serving Marriages That Save Others Synopsis: The mission of a Christian marriage is to be a beautiful expression of the gospel. The best expression of the gospel is Jesus washing his disciples’ feet, a servant who humbled himself and turned the attention away from himself and onto those around him. Unhealthy marriages are consumed with self-service and personal ambitions, seeking to find fulfillment in being consumed with self or with one another. Healthy marriages look for ways to use the strengths in marriage to serve and change the lives of others. When couples join together to express the mission of Christ in the lives of others, they reflect the union of Jesus and the church, bride and groom, in their mission to the world. Service takes attention away from the selfish ambitions of marriage and saves the lives of others, bringing the best out of those they serve. A serving marriage is a powerful witness to the world of Christ’s redemptive love. Text: Matthew 20:20-28 – Roles in the kingdom are reversed; followers of Christ live to serve; a serving marriage is the best expression of the gospel
