Set Apart To Serve: The Magness Family

How can a family culture encourage children to consider church work vocations? Cheryl, Phillip, and Evan Magness join Andy and Sarah for our Set Apart to Serve series to talk about their family culture. Evan, junior at Concordia University Chicago, shares where he is in his formational journey, when he decided to consider studying to become a pastor, the experiences in high school and college that helped form him as a young adult, and the family culture which shaped him as a Christian. Cheryl and Phillip share what has been important in raising their children to help them consider future vocations, how spiritual formation happens in their home, and how worship and congregational life have been a significant part of that spiritual and vocational formation. Christ’s church will continue until He returns, and that church will continue to need church workers. Set Apart to Serve (SAS) is an initiative of the LCMS to recruit church workers. Together, we pray for workers for the Kingdom of God and encourage children to consider church work vocations. Here are three easy ways you can participate in SAS: 1. Pray with your children for God to provide church workers. 2. Talk to your children about becoming church workers. 3. Thank God for the people who work in your congregation.
