While homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is associated with development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in childhood, early recognition and treatment of this inherited disease can improve outcomes for patients. In this animated activity provided by PeerView in collaboration with the Family Heart Foundation, a cardiologist describes the impact of this rare disease on patients and their families, presents strategies for recognizing signs and symptoms of HoFH, and reviews guidelines for genetic screening and referral of patients and their families to appropriate experts and resources for support. Additionally, two patients share their experiences of living with HoFH.
