setting up for failure, What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #169

from Dog Training Q & A What Would Jeff Do? With Jeff Gellman of Solid K9 Training · host Jeff Gellman

Set your dog up to fail. I know, most folks ave heard set your dog up to be succesful. We do that first, we do it over and over again and mark it and name it and do it again and again and reward, reward, and reward more. Then though what happens if the dog does know what to do if it does not do it, what happens when that deer goes by, that squirrel runs up a tree, the peson on the bike goes by you? All of the training in the world that was only rewarding the dog, sometimes and most times cannot over ride the dogs natural insticts to chase, to move towards or to even more likely run away out of fear. You have to set the dog up to fail, allow it to fail, and then correct/punish the failure and then teach the dog how to recover and recover quick.
