Seven California gubernatorial candidates squared off in a tense, nationally televised debate on CNN. Immigration and healthcare were the two big issues.  Katie Porter and Tom Steyer argued California must move toward single‑payer, saying it’s a moral and economic necessity. Matt Mahan warned supporters of single‑payer haven’t explained how to pay for it. Steve Hilton drew attention by saying he's only person whose had to live with single payer healthcare and no one likes it when they have it.
