God is grieved because every thought and imagination of man was only to do evil. God limited man's lifespan to 120 years. Methuselah's grandson, Noah, whose name means rest, survives the flood. Noah's people understood that God would use Noah to give them rest, "And he called his name Noah, saying, this same shall comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath curse."
